Note: When installing, use a new o-ring for the hydraulic tube connector.
Models 1.6 l (until 1992)
Removing
1. Remove the air filter housing installed near the right front fender as described in Sections 4A or 4B.
2. Remove the alternator/power steering pump drive belt as described in Section 1.
3. Turn off three bolts of fastening and remove a pulley of the pump of the amplifier of a steering.
4. Unfasten and remove the outer timing belt cover.
5. Disconnect the hydraulic pipe coupling and hose from the pump. Be prepared for fluid to escape and plug open pump and pipe openings to prevent dirt from entering and further loss of fluid.
6. Turn off two bolts of fastening of the pump and remove the pump from the block of cylinders (towards the generator) (see illustration).
7. It is not possible to overhaul the pump, if the pump is out of order, replace it.
Installation
8. Install in reverse! sequences. Replace the O-ring when installing the hydraulic pipe coupler and tension the power steering pump alternator drive belt (Section 1).
9. Finally, top up the fluid level and bleed the hydraulic line as described in Section 1.
Models 1.6 (since 1993), 1.8 and 2.0 l
Removing
10. Remove the power steering pump drive belt as described in Section 1.
11. Disconnect the hydraulic pipe coupling and flexible hose from the pump (see illustration). Be prepared for fluid to escape, and plug open pump, pipe, and hose openings to prevent dirt from entering and further loss of fluid.
12. Loosen and remove the four mounting bolts. Remove the nuts, and be careful not to lose the rubber pads installed in the mounting bracket.
13. Remove the pump from the car.
14. It is not possible to overhaul the pump, and if the pump is defective, replace it.
Installation
15. Install in reverse order. Replace the O-ring when connecting the hydraulic pipe coupling to the pump. Tension the drive belt as described in Section 1. Note that the pump mounting bolts have different tightening torques (see illustrations).
16 Finally, top up the fluid level and bleed the hydraulic line (Section 1).
