Removal

Remove the flywheel (see the relevant chapter).

Drill two small holes in the seal, located at diametrically opposite ends of the seal. Screw two self-tapping screws into the drilled holes and use pliers to pull the seal out by the screw heads. Alternatively, use a screwdriver blade to pry the seal out.

Warning: When removing the oil seal, be careful not to damage the sealing surface of the crankshaft.

Installation

Clean the seal seat.

Check the shaft surface in contact with the seal for wear, scoring, scratches or other damage that may have rendered the seal unusable. If there are minor defects, they can be polished out, but more serious defects will require replacement of the shaft.

Lubricate the working lips of the new oil seal with clean engine oil and install it on the end of the shaft. Using the special tool KM-J-39201, press the seal into place, being careful not to damage its working edges when installing the seal. Keep in mind that the working lips of the seal must be directed inward.
