Fuel tank (Opel Frontera B)

The fuel tank is located under the rear of the vehicle, increasing safety and luggage space.

To prevent fuel leakage in the event of a vehicle collision, a protection valve is installed to prevent fuel leakage in the event of the vehicle overturning.

Warning! Gasoline is explosive, so when working with fuel system components, ensure proper ventilation of the work area, do not use fire, sparking devices, open fire-hazardous lighting devices, and do not smoke.

Removal

Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.

Before removing the fuel tank, pump out the fuel from it.

Disconnect the ground wire from the fuel tank.

Disconnect the filler neck hose (2) and the vent hose (1) from the fuel tank.



Disconnect the fuel lines (3) from the fuel tank.

Place the jack under the fuel tank with a wooden block between them.

Remove the 3 bolts and nut (4) securing the fuel tank to the brackets. Lower the fuel tank slightly and disconnect the connector (2) from the fuel tank.

Remove the fuel tank from the bracket.



Unscrew the bolt and remove the protective element (1) of the fuel tank.



Unscrew the bolts and remove the straps (3) securing the fuel tank.

Remove the fuel pump and fuel level sensor assembly from the fuel tank (see the relevant chapter).

Warnings:

• Even an empty fuel tank contains fuel vapors that are explosive, so use caution. Any repair to the fuel tank or fuel filler neck should be performed by a professional who has experience performing critical and potentially dangerous work. Even after cleaning and flushing the fuel tank, it still contains explosive fuel vapors.
• The removed fuel tank must be located away from open flames, sparking devices, open fire-hazardous lighting devices and smoking areas.

Installation

Install the fuel pump and fuel level sensor unit into the fuel tank (see the relevant chapter).

Install the fuel tank retaining straps.

Install the fuel tank protector.

Use a jack to raise the fuel tank.

Connect the connector to the fuel pump unit and fuel level sensor.

Secure the fuel tank to the bracket using the bolts and nut, tightening them to a torque of 67 N·m.

Connect the filler hose and vent hose to the fuel tank.

Connect the fuel lines to the fuel tank.

Connect the ground wire to the fuel tank.

Connect the cable to the negative terminal of the battery.

Fill with fuel, start the engine and check the fuel system for leaks.
