Contents: Removal ⬇ Inspection ⬇ Installation ⬇
Note: Before you begin, see. Chapter 2.

Removal

1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.

2. Pump out all remaining fuel from the tank through the filler pipe.

3. Block the front wheels, then jack up the rear of the vehicle and support it on axle stands placed under the sides of the body frame.

4. Disconnect the soft joint of the front section of the exhaust system. Secure the front section of the exhaust system to the underbody with wire or twine.

5. Disconnect the rear section of the exhaust system from the rubber hangers, place it on the torsion beam of the rear suspension. It is also recommended to tie the rear section of the exhaust system from the front end to the bottom with wire or twine.

6. Unclip the handbrake cable from the bracket on the left fuel tank mounting strap.

7. Disconnect the fuel supply hoses from the fuel level sensor located on the right side of the fuel tank. Note the position of the hose to avoid confusion during installation. Plug the open ends of the hoses to prevent dirt from entering and fuel loss.

8. Disconnect the electrical wiring from the fuel level sensor.

9. Disconnect the filler hoses at the vent on the rear of the fuel tank.

10. Support the fuel tank with a jack.

11. Loosen the tank mounting strap bolts, then remove the straps and lower the tank enough to allow the remaining ventilation hoses to be disconnected

12. Remove the tank sideways from underneath the vehicle on the right side. Note that some fuel may leak out when removing the tank.

Inspection

13. If the tank contains sediment or water, it can be rinsed two or three times with clean fuel. But before rinsing, remove the fuel level sensor as described in Chapter 8. Perform this procedure in a well-ventilated area or outdoors, observing fire safety measures.

14. The fuel tank should only be repaired by a professional. Never attempt to weld or solder the fuel tank. Removing residual fuel vapor requires several hours of special cleaning.

Installation

15. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Make sure that all hoses are correctly connected as marked before removal.

16. Finally, fill the fuel tank, then start the engine and check the system for leaks. If there are leaks, turn off the engine immediately and fix the problem without delay.
