            0

This manual covers all-wheel drive models with 4-cylinder petrol engines ONC 2.0 l (115 hp) and 2.4 l (125 hp), and DOHC 2.2 l (136 hp) "ECOTEC", produced since 1992.

The two-door version of the car, called Frontera Sport, has a shortened wheelbase. The four-door version has an extended base and a 16-valve engine (16V) "ECOTEC". The distinctive feature of this engine is its high torque already at 2600 rpm. The engine has 4 valves per cylinder, direct injection (without distributor) ignition, Motronic M1.5.4 injection control system, detonation ignition control, exhaust toxicity reduction systems.

The front suspension is independent, with double wishbones, telescopic shock absorbers, anti-roll bar and torsion bars for adjusting the ride height.

The rear suspension is a rigid axle mounted on leaf springs or coil springs, depending on the model. Differential lock is available on select models.

The hydraulic brake system is divided into two circuits and is equipped with a vacuum booster and a brake pressure regulator. The front wheel brakes are disc brakes, the rear ones are drum or disc brakes, depending on the equipment. The parking brake acts on the built-in drums of the rear wheels. Anti-lock braking system can be installed as additional equipment.

The clutch drive is hydraulic.

The vehicle is controlled by a steering system with a screw-and-nut mechanism on circulating balls. A hydraulic booster is used as standard.

The car is equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission (MT), combined with a 2-speed transfer case or installed separately from the latter.

The car is equipped with a security alarm system.
