Compared to the end of 2004, the manufacturing method of the camshaft drive gears and the crankshaft timing gear for the above-mentioned engines has changed. The new camshaft drive gears and the new crankshaft timing gear are stamped from a sheet.

The old camshaft drive gears and the old crankshaft timing gear were manufactured using the sintering method.

Technical features

When replacing a new stamped sheet crankshaft timing gear, make sure that the "FRONT" inscription always points to the steering gear housing (which is not necessary for the old sintered crankshaft timing gear).

New camshaft drive gear assembly on camshaft

With older, sintered camshaft drive gears, the pressure plate is partially caulked to the camshaft drive gears, see figure: camshaft drive gear comparison.

This technology has changed with the camshaft drive gears, which are stamped from sheet metal.

The pressure plate is no longer calked, but is installed together with the old mounting bolt and the old phase sensor as one piece.

When installing new, stamped sheet metal camshaft drive gears, pay attention to the installation position. The larger diameter mating surface must face the camshaft drive gear.

Please note that one engine must always be equipped with camshaft drive gears and crankshaft timing gears manufactured using the same method.

Control and adjustment values

* correction and adjustment is given according to the tech2 testing guide.

** the pressure difference between individual cylinders should not exceed 100 kPa.
