Models with a single overhead camshaft engine
Removing
1. If the engine is not removed from the vehicle, drain the liquid from the cooling system as described in Chapter 2.
2. On models 1.4 and 1.6 l (except C16 NZ2) remove the rear timing belt cover. On models C16 NZ2, 1.8 and 2.0 l, remove the toothed drive belt (see Section 2A).
3. Remove the timing belt tensioner from the oil pump, where applicable.
4. Turn off and remove bolts of fastening of the pump of system of cooling (see illustration).
5. Remove the coolant pump from the cylinder block and remove the O-ring (see illustrations). You may need to tap the pump lightly with a mallet to disengage it from the cylinder block.
6. If required, remove the timing belt rear cover from the pump.
7. It is not possible to overhaul the coolant pump, and if it is faulty, replace the pump assembly
Installation
8. Installation is carried out in the reverse order, paying attention to the following.
9. Use a new O-ring when installing the pump. Before installation, apply silicone grease or petroleum jelly to the pump installation site in the cylinder block and the O-ring
10. Do not fully tighten the pump mounting bolts before the toothed drive belt is installed and tensioned.
11. Install and tension the toothed drive belt as described in Section 2A.
12. If the engine is in the vehicle, fill the cooling system as described in Chapter 4.
Models with engines with two overhead camshafts
Removing
13. Remove the bottom protective plate of the engine.
14. If the engine is in the vehicle, drain the cooling system as described in Chapter 2.
15. Remove the toothed drive belt, camshaft sprockets, crankshaft sprocket, toothed belt tensioner and guide rollers, and rear toothed belt cover as described in Section 2B.
16. Proceed as described in points 4 and 5.
17. Bulkhead of the pump of the cooling system is not possible, if the pump is defective, replace it.
Installation
18. Installation is carried out in reverse order, paying attention to the following.
19. Use a new O-ring. Before installing, apply silicone grease or petroleum jelly to the pump installation site in the cylinder block and the O-ring.
20. Install the pump and before tightening the pump mounting bolts, make sure that the protrusions on the pump and cylinder block are aligned (see illustration).
21. Install the remaining components and tension the toothed drive belt as described in Section 2B.
22. If the engine is in the vehicle, fill the cooling system as described in Chapter 4. Install the bottom lock plate.
