Removal and installation the coolant pump (Opel Kadett D)

Note: There may be drips on the coolant pump vents and traces of coolant evaporation in the engine compartment, but there should be no measurable coolant leakage in the reservoir.


Engine ONS



Removal



Set the piston of cylinder 1 to the ignition position, see p. 1.3.

Drain the coolant into a container.

Shine V-belt, see item 22.3.

Unscrew the cooling pump.

Remove the timing belt, see p. 1.3.

Unscrew the lower timing belt cover.

Unscrew the lower timing belt cover.


Remove the cooling pump.

Installation



Installation


To prevent corrosion of the cooling pump, lubricate both the sealing surfaces on the engine block and the gasket on the cooling pump housing with silicone sealant -arrow-.

Install the new gasket and coolant pump into the engine block.



Caution: Tighten screws by hand only. Install rear timing belt cover.


Install and tighten the timing belt, see p. 1.3.

Tighten the coolant pump housing. Tightening torque for 1.2-/1.3-/1.4-l engines 8 Nm, for 1.6-/1.8-l engines 25 Nm.

Insert and tighten the V-belt, see item 22.3.

Install the front timing belt cover.

Fill with coolant.

OHV engine



Removal



Drain and collect the coolant, see p. 3.2.

Remove the upper and lower coolant hoses, as well as the heater hose from the water pump.

Remove the water pump belt pulley screws.

Remove the generator tension bracket.

Remove the V-belt.

Remove the V-belt pulley from the water pump.

Unscrew the water pump from the cylinder head.

Unscrew the water pump from the cylinder head.


Clean the mating surfaces.

Installation



Installation


Install a new gasket with a small amount of grease.



Screw on and tighten the water pump to 8 Nm.

Put on and tighten the V-belt, see item 22.2.

Install the upper and lower coolant hoses and the heater hose to the water pump.

Fill with coolant, see p. 3.2.
