Engines 1.4 and 1.6 liters
Removal and installation
Drain the liquid from the cooling system.
Remove the rear timing belt guard as directed in chapter 2.
Remove the three bolts securing the coolant pump.
Remove the pump from the cylinder block and remove the sealing ring. You may need to lightly tap the pump with a soft-shelled hammer to release it.
If the pump is damaged, it cannot be repaired and must be replaced.
Lubricate the mating surface with waterproof grease before installing the pump (type Vauxhall/Opel N 19 70 206 or equivalent).
Install the pump with a new O-ring, but do not completely tighten the pump mounting bolts until the timing belt is installed and tensioned (chapter 2).
Install the rear belt cover and fill the cooling system.
Engine 1.8 and 2.0 l
Removal and installation
Drain the liquid from the cooling system. Remove the timing belt as directed in chapter 2, and on engines with two camshafts, remove the rear belt cover.
On engines with a single camshaft, remove the bolt securing the rear belt cover on the water pump to the cylinder block.
Remove the pump as described earlier.
Lubricate the mating end face with waterproof grease before installing the pump (Vauxhall/Opel N 19 70 206 or equivalent).
Install the pump with a new O-ring, (on engines with two camshafts, check that the pump and cylinder block bosses match before tightening the bolts). Do not fully tighten the pump bolts before installing and tensioning the distributor belt.
On twin cam engines, install the rear timing belt cover as directed in chapter 2.
Install the distributor belt as directed in chapter 2 (on engines with two camshafts, a new belt must be installed).
Fill the cooling system.
