Removal and installation

Drain the cooling system.

Remove the rear timing belt cover as shown in chapter 2.

Remove the three bolts securing the cooling system pump.

Remove the pump from the cylinder block and remove the O-ring. You may need to tap the pump lightly with a soft-sided hammer to free it.

If the pump is damaged, it cannot be repaired and must be replaced.

Before installing the pump, lubricate the mating surface with waterproof grease (type Vauxhall/Opel N 19 70 206 or equivalent).

Install the pump with a new O-ring, but do not fully tighten the pump mounting bolts until the timing belt is installed and tensioned (chapter 2).

Install the rear belt cover and fill the cooling system.

Engine 1.8 and 2.0 l

Removal and installation

Drain the cooling system. Remove the timing belt as described in chapter 2, and on engines with two camshafts, remove the rear belt cover.

On engines with one camshaft, unscrew the bolt securing the rear cover of the belt on the coolant pump to the cylinder block.

Remove the pump as described earlier.

Before installing the pump, lubricate the mating end surface with waterproof grease (Vauxhall/Opel N 19 70 206 or equivalent).

Install the pump with a new O-ring, (on twin cam engines, check that the pump and cylinder block bosses are aligned before tightening the bolts). Do not fully tighten the pump bolts until the timing belt is installed and tensioned.

On twin cam engines, install the rear timing belt cover as shown in chapter 2.

Install the timing belt as shown in chapter 2 (on engines with two camshafts, a new belt must be installed).

Fill the cooling system.
