Checking, removing and installing
On models equipped with a refrigerant level sensor, it is located in the expansion tank.
To check the sensor on a cold engine, carefully loosen the expansion tank cap to relieve pressure in the cooling system.
Completely loosen the cover screws and carefully remove the cover together with the sensor.
Hold the cap/sensor assembly vertically in the tank, being careful not to pull on the wires, then have the assistant turn on the ignition (without starting the engine).
Your assistant should check the coolant level indicator on the instrument panel to see if it is on.
Turn the ignition off and reinstall the cover/sensor assembly, then turn the ignition back on.
If the sensor does not work as expected, check the wiring for signs of damage. If the sensor is replaced, the entire cover/sensor assembly is replaced.
Before removing the expansion tank, the engine must cool down.
Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
