General information (Opel Frontera B)

The automatic transmission has four forward gears and one reverse gear.

Hydraulic actuators lock or release individual elements of the planetary gear, thus changing the gear ratio of the transmission. The locking is performed by a brake mechanism and multi-disc friction clutches operating in oil.

The oil pump supplies oil through a hydraulic distributor, which has valves to supply oil under pressure to the required brake mechanisms and friction clutches. The hydraulic distributor provides oil pressure regulation taking into account the engine load.

The oil pump is driven by the engine crankshaft through the torque converter, and supplies oil under pressure to the torque converter to lubricate the transmission components, as well as to operate the friction clutches and brakes.

Solenoid valves are designed to open or block the oil channels of the hydraulic distributor, which leads to gear shifting.

The electronic unit receives signals from sensors monitoring vehicle speed, accelerator pedal position, engine speed and selector position, and controls the electromagnetic valves.

The automatic transmission identification plate is located on the left side of the crankcase above the transmission mode selector switch.
