Immobilizer (engine blocking system) (Opel Frontera B)

Immobilizer (engine blocking system)

The car is equipped with an electronic engine blocking system, which reduces the risk of unauthorized use of the car.

The system includes a small-sized transceiver (transponder), built into the ignition key, antenna coil in the ignition switch and immobilizer unit.

The immobilizer unit checks the correctness of the code signal transmitted by the transmitter. If the code signal is determined to be correct, the engine can be started.

If the code signal is incorrect, the engine will not start.

To disable the immobilizer

To disable the immobilizer

Insert the key into the ignition switch and turn it to the ON position.

Control lamp lights up when the ignition is turned on, then goes out. If the indicator light flashes, this indicates a system malfunction and the engine cannot be started.
  • Turn the key in the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  • Wait about 2 seconds.
  • Repeat the engine starting process.

If the indicator light continues to flash, contact your Opel dealer for assistance.

If the indicator light comes on while the vehicle is moving, it means that there is a malfunction in the electronic engine control system.

To turn on the immobilizer

Turn the ignition key to the LOCK position, the immobilizer will be automatically activated and the engine will not start without the appropriate ignition key.

The engine immobilizer system does not lock the doors. Therefore, when leaving the car, lock the doors and activate the anti-theft system.

Note: There must not be any other keys with the immobilizer function near the key used to start the engine. This may result in the engine not starting properly or stopping suddenly shortly after starting. To avoid any damage to your vehicle, keep each key separately.

Warnings:
  • When the key is in the ignition switch, there should be no other electronic keys, metal objects or devices that emit electromagnetic waves near it.
  • The transponder located in the ignition key is highly reliable, but can fail when exposed to moisture or static electricity. If you experience problems with the remote control of the door locks or need to replace the transmitter battery, contact your Opel dealer. Do not modify or upgrade the engine immobilizer system, as this may cause it to malfunction.
