Before removing the clutch for replacement, the following steps must be performed to determine the location of the damage.
1. Start the engine and let it idle.
2. Press the clutch pedal and wait about 3 seconds.
3. Put the gear into reverse. If noise is heard from the gearbox, this may indicate damage to the clutch or to the connection between the clutch and the flywheel.
To check the clutch for slippage, do the following:
1. Drive the car for some distance to allow the gearbox and clutch to warm up to operating temperature.
2. Stop the vehicle and apply the parking brake. Shift into third gear.
3. Press the clutch pedal. Increase the engine speed to 3000-4000 rpm and suddenly release the pedal. If the engine stops immediately, the clutch is working properly.
