Suspension — specifications (Opel Ascona C)

Front suspension.

Type. - Independent with MacPherson struts and coil springs. Anti-roll rod.

Suspension and steering angles. - Contact Specifications in Chapter 8 and to the introductory section of this manual for wheelbase dimensions and distance between the front and rear wheels.

Rear suspension.

Type. - Semi-independent torsion bar with locking levers, coil springs and telescopic shock absorbers. Anti-roll bar on 1.6 and 1.8 models.

Suspension angles (not adjustable):

• Wheel alignment. - from 0 to -1 degrees.
• Maximum side-to-side deflection. — 0 gr 30 min.
• Convergence "toes in". - from + 0 degrees 20 min to 1 degrees 00 min (from 2.0 to 6.0 mm).
• Maximum side-to-side deflection. — 0 gr 15 min.

Road wheels and tires.

Stamped steel type. — 53 or 5 1/2 3 x 13 depending on the model.

Light alloy type. — 5 1/2 3 x 13 or 14 depending on the model.

Tire sizes. — 155 SR 13,165 SR 13,165 HR 13,185 / 70 SR 13,185 / 70 HR 13, 185 / 70 TR 13,195 / 60 HR 14 depending on the model.

Tire pressure (under normal load) * — Front / Rear.

Pressure - bar (Lbf / in²), cold:

models 1.3:

• tires 155 x 13. — 2.0 (29) / 1.9 (28).
• tires 165 x 13. — 1.9 (28) / 1.7 (25).

1.6 models up to 1985:

• all models except SR. — 1.9 (28) / 1.7 (25).
• SR. — 2.0 (29)/ 2.0 (29).

1.6 models after 1985:

• Base.— 2.0 (29)/ 1.8 (26).
• L, GL and GLS. — 1.9 (28)/ 1.7 (25).

1.8 models up to 1984:

• tires 185/70 x 13. — 1.9 (28) / 1.8 (26).
• tires 195/60 x 14. — 2.0 (29) / 2.0 (29).

1.8 models after 1985:

• tires 185/70 x 13. — 2.0 (29) / 1.8 (26).
• tires 195/60 x 14. — 2.1 (30) / 1.9 (28).

(*) - For high speed driving, increase the pressure by 0.2 bar (3 Lbf / in²). For heavy loads, consult your manual or dealer.

Front suspension

The ball joint of the control bracket is the short axle holder. — 70 /52.

Upper suspension strut mounting nuts. — 20 / 15.

Strut piston rod nut. — 55 / 41.

Rack nut. — 200 / 148.

Ball joint of the rod - steering arm. — 60 / 44.

U — anti-tilt rod clamps. — 20 / 15.

Suspension control bracket axle bolts. — 110 / 81.

Suspension control bracket support (short type):

• Small bolts. — 110/ 81.
• Large center bolt. — 130 / 96.
• Suspension Control Bracket Support Bolts (long type). — 110 / 81.

Toothed nut drive shaft - hub holder:

• Stage 1. - 100/74.
• Loosen, then Stage 2. - 20 / 15.
• Step 3: Tighten 90 degrees.

Rear suspension

Axle bolts rear axle - bottom - 100/74.

Rear shock absorber mounts ("station wagon"):

• Upper. - 20 / 15.
• Lower. - 55 / 41.

Lower support of the rear shock absorber ("salon" / "hatchback"):
