2. Disengage the direction indicator and wiper switches by pressing the upper and lower locking tabs and lifting the switches out of their grooves.
3. Remove the steering and ignition mounting bracket.
4. Place the steering wheel and front wheels in the "straight ahead" position.
5. Unscrew and remove the upper pinch bolt from the steering flexible coupling.
6. Unscrew and remove the bolt that secures the base of the speaker to the bulkhead.
7. Now you need to remove the bolts from the upper column mounting bracket. The left-hand bolt is of the split type and must be punched and drilled out (using a 1/8 inch drill bit) and removed using a bolt extractor.
8. Pull the column assembly into the machine and then remove it from the machine. Handle the column with care, avoid impacts or collisions of any kind. Remove the steering wheel (Section 8).
9. If you are installing a new column assembly, there is a plastic spacer in the column tube that is located at the base of the shaft to center the shaft.
10. Center the steering as shown in Section 4, paragraphs 12-16.
11. Use a plastic spacer to center the shaft in the column tube.
12. Feed the column into place and connect the coupling as indicated in Section 4, paragraphs 13-15.
13. Connect the upper mount without tension using a new split bolt.
14. Loosely screw the lower retaining bolt and coupling clamp bolt into the column.
15. Tighten the lower fixing bolt to the specified torque value. Tighten the split bolt until its head breaks off.
16. Pull up on the steering shaft until contact is made with the shaft stop. Tighten the clutch clamp bolt.
17. Remove the temporary plastic centering gasket.
18. Reinstall the mounting bracket and switches, as well as the top speaker covers (photo).
