Removing
1. Remove the power block from the engine compartment (see relevant chapter).
2. Disconnect the manual transmission from the engine.
3. Remove the timing cover (see relevant chapter).
4. Lock the flywheel with shoe 1 KM-652, unscrew the fastening bolts and remove the flywheel from the crankshaft (see illustration).
5. Remove the vibration damping block 2 from the crankshaft sprocket (see illustration), (see relevant chapter).
6. Number the caps 1 of the main and caps of the 2 connecting rod bearings, and also mark the undercuts 3 for oil supply (see illustration).
7. Unscrew bolts of fastening of covers of conrod bearings and remove them.
8. Unscrew bolts of fastening of covers of radical bearings and remove them.
9. Remove the crankshaft from the cylinder block along with the vibration damper chain.
10. Remove the chain from the crankshaft sprocket.
11. Clean the sealing surfaces and remove any remaining seal from them.
12. Inspect all parts for damage and wear and replace if necessary.
13. Check the condition of the crankshaft (see relevant chapter).
Installation
14. Lubricate the new crankshaft bearing shells with engine oil and place them in the cylinder block or in the covers (see illustration).
15. Install the vibration damping block on the crankshaft sprocket and lay the shaft in the cylinder block.
If necessary, straighten the position of the crankshaft in the cylinder block with light blows of a rubber hammer on the cheeks of the necks.
16. Apply a small amount of black sealant to the groove on the back thrust surface (see illustration).
17. Install, guided by the marks made before removal, caps 1 of the main bearings, screw in the mounting bolts and tighten them with a force of 90 Nm, and then tighten them in one pass by 60°, and then in the second by 15° (see illustration).
18. Pump black sealant into the holes on under the rear bearing cover (see arrows in illustration 10.17).
19. Lubricate the connecting rod bearing shells with engine oil and install them on the necks and in the covers, and then install the covers 2 in their original places and secure with new bolts. Also install new thrust half rings 3 (see illustration 10.17). The tightening torque of the connecting rod bearing cap bolts is 35 Nm, followed by 45°and 15°adjustments.
20. Apply a thin layer of white sealant on the working surface of the crankshaft oil seal and fill it with a mandrel 2 KM-934-2 with a handle 3 KM-454-A (see illustration).
21. Attach the flywheel to the crankshaft by screwing in and tightening the new mounting bolts. Flywheel bolt tightening torque 45 Nm followed by 30°and 15°adjustments. To prevent turning of the crankshaft when tightening the bolts, lock the flywheel with a thrust shoe 4 KM-652 (see illustration).
22. Install the vibration damping unit (see relevant chapter).
23. Install the timing cover (see relevant chapter).
24. Cars with a manual transmission. Connect the engine and gearbox.
25. Install the power block in the engine compartment (see relevant chapter).
