Install the liners in the block bed and main bearing caps.
Lay the crankshaft in the block supports, install the main bearing caps and check the runout of the crankshaft flange with an indicator, which should not exceed 0.015 mm.
Remove the middle main bearing shells so that the crankshaft rests only on the extreme main journals.
Check the runout of the middle main journal with an indicator, which should not exceed 0.03 mm.
Check the axial clearance of the crankshaft with an indicator or a set of feelers, which should be within 0.09-0.20 mm.
Measure the diameter of the main and connecting rod journals with a micrometer (see subsection «Design and specifications»). Grind the crankshaft journals if their dimensions are out of tolerance or there are scuffs and scratches on the journals.
Select new liners of main and connecting rod bearings of the appropriate repair size (see table in subsection «Design and specifications»), as well as the corresponding connecting rod bearings.
Install the liners in the block bed and crankshaft main bearing caps.
Lay the crankshaft in the main bearings; its axial clearance is determined by the middle main bearing shells. Tighten the main bearing cap bolts after lubricating their threads with plenty of engine oil.
Correct the position of the crankshaft by hitting its end several times with a rubber-faced hammer.
Tighten the middle main bearing cap bolts to 6.2 kgf·m.
To prevent oil leakage, thoroughly lubricate the mating inner surfaces of the front and rear main bearings with sealant and make sure that the top edge of the rear main bearing cap is in the same plane with the cylinder block.
Make sure that the crankshaft rotates freely, tighten the bolts of the caps of other main bearings with a torque of 6.2 kgf·m, and after tightening the bolts of fastening of each cap, it is necessary to check. whether the crankshaft rotates freely.
Warning. Bearing shells to ensure free rotation of the crankshaft are not allowed to be scraped.
Turning the crankshaft so that the connecting rod journals are in the BDC and TDC positions, replace the pistons with the connecting rods.
