Checking and installing piston rings (Opel Kadett E)

Check the gap in the piston ring lock with a set of feeler gauges, inserting the rings into the cylinder using the piston. Also check the gap between the piston rings and the piston grooves (see subsection "Design and technical characteristics").

Make sure the "Top" mark on the lower compression ring is facing up.

Using a piston ring expander, install the oil scraper ring and the lower compression ring (conical section) and the upper compression ring (rectangular cross-section) into the piston grooves.

Move the joints of the rings 180° apart relative to each other.
