Warning. The connecting rods of one engine should not differ from each other in mass by more than 8 g. When replacing a connecting rod, weigh it and replace it with a new one of exactly the same mass.
Lubricate the crankshaft journals and cylinder walls with engine oil.
Liberally lubricate the piston skirt, piston pin, and upper end of the connecting rod with engine oil.
Insert the piston with the connecting rod into the cylinder so that the valve recess in the piston crown points towards the camshaft. For this:
- using a tool, compress the piston rings;
- use a hammer handle to lower the piston with the connecting rod into the cylinder until the connecting rod rests on the connecting rod journal.
Turn the cylinder block 180°and place it on a stand with a surface that mates with the cylinder head.
Lubricate the liners with engine oil, install the connecting rod caps and tighten the bolt nuts to a torque of 2.7 kgf·m.
Make sure the connecting rods rotate freely on the crankshaft journals.
