In case of hard rotation of the crankshaft or if there is doubt about the correct clearances in the main and connecting rod bearings, check the clearance between the liners and the crankshaft journals using a calibrated plastic wire type PG 1. This clearance should be between 0.020-0.046 mm for 1- th main bearing, 0.010-0.036 mm 2nd and 0-0.315 mm for the 3rd main bearing, and 0.020-0.060 mm for connecting rod bearings.
Soften a piece of plastic wire in hot water, wipe it dry and place it on the corresponding crankshaft journal.
Install a connecting rod with a cap or a main bearing cap on the neck to be checked and tighten the fastening bolts or nuts to the specified torque, remove the cap and determine the gap across the width of the flattened wire using the scale printed on the wire package.
Remove the wire and wipe the crankshaft journal with suede.
Lubricate the crankshaft journals with engine oil and install the bearing caps in place, then tighten the bolts and nuts of their fastening to the specified torque.
