Remove any auxiliary units installed on the engine. Drain the oil from the engine.
Loosen the rocker arm nuts a few turns, remove the rocker arms and mark them so that they can be put back in their original places during assembly.
Remove the cylinder head as described above.
Remove the crankshaft pulley.
Remove the camshaft drive cover and oil deflector.
Remove the camshaft drive chain tensioner.
Remove the crankshaft and camshaft sprocket with the chain.
Caution: Before removing the camshaft timing chain, mark the front side of the chain with paint to indicate the direction of travel.
Remove the camshaft retaining plate.
Remove the camshaft, taking care not to damage the bearing bushings.
Remove the rear camshaft drive cover.
Remove the clutch housing assembly with the pressure plate, which releases the driven disk. Remove the flywheel.
Turn the engine over and place it on the stand with the surface of the cylinder block mating with the head.
Remove the oil pan and oil pump.
Mark the tappets and remove them.
Apply marks to the connecting rod caps, remove the caps and liners.
Turn the engine 180° and remove the pistons with connecting rods through the cylinders, and turn the engine 180° again, remove the crankshaft main bearing caps and remove the crankshaft from the supports.
Note: There is no need to mark the main bearing caps, as they cannot be mixed up during assembly.

Thoroughly clean the parts from dirt and grease residue.
Remove, if necessary, any remaining gaskets and sealant from the surfaces of the parts.
Clean the parts with pure white spirit, rinse and dry. If necessary, blow out oil channels, mounting holes, friction surfaces, cylinders, camshaft drive chain, etc. with compressed air.
Check the condition of the parts and replace worn and damaged parts. See the dimensions in the subsection "Design and technical characteristics".
