1. Remove the oil pump and flywheel (leading disk).

2. Remove the connecting rods with pistons.

3. Check the crankshaft end play (see below), then do the following.

4. The main bearing caps should be numbered from 1 to 5, starting with the front cap (see photo). If there are no numbers, then apply marks with paint or punch that correspond to the serial number of the cover (the numbers must be positioned identically and ensure that the correct orientation of the cover is determined during assembly).

6. Loosen the main bearing cap bolts in a diagonal sequence, making 1/2 turn at a time. Remove the bolts. Remove the caps (the main bearing shells must be in place).

7. Carefully remove the crankshaft, making sure that the upper main bearing shells do not move (see photo).

8. Remove the upper main bearings from the cylinder block. Tape each bearing to its corresponding cover.



2.0L Engines



9. Remove the oil pump, flywheel (leading disk) and oil deflector (installed only on those engines in which the balance mechanism is absent).

10. Evenly and gradually unscrew the bolts and remove the balance mechanism (or the frame of the main bearing caps).

11. The further procedure for removing the crankshaft is no different from that discussed above for 1.4-1.8 l engines.
