Removing
Engines 1.7 l SOHC
1. Remove the front bumper (see chapter Body).
2. Disconnect oil lines from top and bottom of oil cooler - prepare to catch spilled oil.
3. Remove the mounting bolt from the top of the oil cooler and release the latter from the support bracket by pulling it down and out.
Engines 1.7 L DOHC
1. Firmly apply the parking brake, jack up the front of the vehicle and place it on jack stands. If equipped, remove the crankcase protection. The oil cooler is installed at the rear on the left side of the cylinder block.
2. Empty the cooling system (see chapter Cooling, heating systems), or clamp the hoses of the cooling path directly above the oil cooler with clamps. Be prepared for possible coolant spillage when disconnecting hoses. To gain access to the hoses, remove the air tube/turbocharger hose (see chapter Power and exhaust systems).
3. Install a drain pan under the oil filter. Release the oil cooler return hose fitting, loosen the clamp and disconnect the hose.
4. Loosen the mounting clamps and disconnect the hoses from the oil cooler, release the electrical wiring from the clamps.
5. Turn out a single bolt of fastening of the case of the oil filter to the block of cylinders. Discard the o-ring - it must be replaced during assembly without fail.
Engines 2.0 l
1. The oil cooler is mounted on the front left side of the cylinder block and bolted to the front of the oil filter housing. To gain access, set the parking brake, jack up the front of the vehicle and support it on jack stands. If equipped, remove the crankcase protection.
2. To minimize coolant loss, pinch the cooling system hoses on both sides of the oil cooler with clamps. Loosen the clamps and remove the hoses - get ready to collect the spilled liquid.
3. Wipe clean the surfaces around the oil cooler, remove the mounting bolts and remove the oil cooler along with the O-rings from the oil filter housing.
Installation
Engines 1.7 l SOHC
1. Insert the oil cooler into the bracket and tighten the mounting bolt to the required torque.
2. Connect the upper and lower tubes by tightening the bar connectors to the required torque.
3. Install the front bumper (see chapter Body).
4. Check engine oil level, correct if necessary (see chapter Current service).
Engines 1.7 L DOHC
1. Install a new O-ring into the groove on the back of the oil cooler, then press the oil cooler against the cylinder block.
2. Make sure the hose is securely fastened to the oil cooler. Check that the protrusion in the oil filter housing fits into the mating groove on the injection pump bracket. Screw in the central bolt and tighten it with the required force.
3. Connect the hoses of the cooling path to the oil cooler and secure them with clamps.
4. Lower the vehicle to the ground. Check oil level, correct if necessary (see chapter Current service).
5. If removed, reinstall the intake duct.
6. Fill the cooling system (see chapter Cooling, heating systems).
7. Start the engine and check for signs of leaks.
Engines 2.0 l
1. Installation is in the reverse order to the removal of the components. Don't forget to replace the o-rings.
2. Finally, check the coolant level and top up, if necessary, top up the cooling system (see chapter Cooling, heating systems).
