2. Carefully punch or drill two small holes in the hard end of the gland. Screw a self-tapping screw into the holes and, grabbing the screw heads with pliers, remove the oil seal from its seat.
Be extremely careful not to damage the pump!
3. Clean the walls of the gland seat, carefully use a scraper to remove burrs and scuffs that can lead to failure of the new gland.
4. Lubricate the sealing lips of the new oil seal with clean engine oil and press the oil seal flush with the surface of the pump cover (sponges inside), - use a suitable cylindrical mandrel (see Removal, service and installation of the oil pump, Installation — Engines 1.7 l SOHC) Make sure that the working edges of the cuff look inside the engine.
5. Install the crankshaft gear (see Removal and installation of the belt tensioner and timing gears (engines 1.7 l).
