1. On all manual transmissions described in this Manual, the gearshift drive is made by means of cables.
2. The general principle of adjustment is to set the gear lever in the vehicle interior and the shift mechanism on the gearbox to the neutral position with the drive removed, after which the drive is installed - while the positions of the lever and mechanism are synchronized. The operations for all transmission models are almost identical and differ only in the way the lever and mechanism are fixed - they are given separately for each manual transmission.
3. Adjustment of the switching drive is not among the routine procedures for the current maintenance of the car and the need for it arises only after the removal of the switching mechanism. If the gear shifting is not clear, the correct functioning of the drive can be checked, if necessary, appropriate adjustments are made.
4. On the center console in the passenger compartment, using a plastic wedge, first release the decorative frame of the niche from the latches, and then the leather boot of the gear lever and wrap the boot of the lever up. Remove the front ashtray tray.
5. Using a small screwdriver, gently pry out both drive cable latches (see resist. illustration).

Attention: Be careful when pressing the latches, excessive force can lead to breakage!
Manual transmission F17/F17+ and F40
6. Pull the latch of the reverse gear lock up and squeeze the 2 tabs of the clips with tongs (see resist. illustration) so that the spring-loaded gear lever lock block drops down. Secure the locking block with a stopper (and accordingly the lever) in the neutral gear position.

7. Set the neutral gear in the manual transmission and fix the shift mechanism in this position. On the F17/F17+ manual transmission, press the spring-loaded axle of the gearshift mechanism down to fix it (see illustration 8.7a) and secure with a tool «M-527-A.

Note: The illustration shows the gearshift mechanism of earlier model years (until about January 2003.). The fixation of the modified mechanism is carried out completely -illogically. In addition, the mechanisms are interchangeable.
For manual transmission F40, it is necessary to perform the same operations with the only difference that the device is installed in a slightly different way.
Note: On models equipped with the Y30DT engine, you must first remove the battery from the pallet (see chapter 5).
Connect the drive cables to the lever and, by pressing from above, alternately latch the latches of both cables.

9. Remove the clips and reinstall all removed components, then check the shift mechanism for proper operation.
Manual transmission F23
10. Install the gearshift mechanism on the manual transmission in «neutral» position, make sure that no gear is engaged by shaking the gear lever (see resist. illustration). Then move the gearshift lever inside the car to the neutral position and lock it with the lock.

11. Connect the drive cables, remove the clamps and reinstall all the removed components, then check the operation of the shift mechanism.
Manual transmission F35
12. Pull the latch of the reverse gear lock up and squeeze the 2 tabs of the clips with tongs (see resist. illustration) so that the spring-loaded locking block of the gear lever drops down. Secure the locking block with a stopper (and accordingly the lever) in the 4th gear position.

13. Depressing the lever (see resist. illustration) gearshift mechanism back, turn on the 4th gear in the manual transmission. Fix the mechanism in this position, for which, install the KM-6325 device on the lower arm of the mechanism and push it so that it is deep enough «sat down» on the lever.

14. Connect the drive cables, remove the clamps and reinstall all the removed components, then check the operation of the shift mechanism.
