Removing
1. Remove the cylinder head cover.
2. Remove the camshaft pulley.
3. Unscrew bolts of fastening of a back casing of a gear belt to a head of the block of cylinders.
4. Working in sequence, loosen the camshaft bearing cap nuts half a turn each pass until the nuts are completely unscrewed. This is necessary to gradually and evenly relieve the pressure of the valve springs.
5. Remove the covers, checking their markings. The bearing caps are marked with numbers from 1 to 5 and an arrow pointing towards the timing belt.
6. Remove the camshaft from the cylinder head. Remove the pushrods from their sockets at the top of the cylinder head and place them in the numbered plastic bags to reinstall them.
Examination
1. Check the condition of the working surfaces of the camshaft bearings and cams for wear. If there is any wear on the camshaft, it must be replaced. Check up a condition of working surfaces of bearings of a camshaft of a head of the block of cylinders. If the bearing surfaces are worn, the cylinder head must be replaced.
2. Check up a condition of pushers. If there is wear on the pushers, the pusher must be replaced.
Installation
1. Lubricate the tappets with clean engine oil and install them in their original positions.
2. Check that shims are installed at the top of the tappets.
3. Lubricate the camshaft bearings in the cylinder head with clean engine oil and install the camshaft. Check that the mark on the crankshaft pulley is aligned with the pointer on the oil pump housing, and the fuel pump pulley is fixed with the clamp bolt. Install the camshaft so that the cams of the first cylinder are pointing up and the locating pin on the end of the camshaft is also pointing up.
4. Lubricate the bearings and camshaft lobes with clean engine oil.
5. Apply a thin layer of sealant to the cylinder head in the area where the first camshaft bearing cap is installed (in the photo - the places where the sealant is applied (arrows) on the cylinder head and the position of the locating pin of the camshaft (A)).
6. Install the camshaft bearing caps. The arrows on the covers must point towards the toothed belt.
7. Tighten the bearing cap nuts by hand. evenly and gradually (one turn each time) tighten the camshaft bearing caps until they touch the cylinder head. After that, in a certain sequence, tighten all the nuts in several stages to the required torque.
8. Install a new camshaft oil seal.
9. Screw bolts of fastening of a back casing of a gear belt to a head of the block of cylinders.
10. Install the camshaft pulley and toothed belt.
11. Check the valve clearances and install the cylinder head cover.
