Removal
1. Remove the cylinder head cover.
2. Remove the camshaft pulley.
3. Unscrew the bolts securing the rear timing belt cover to the cylinder head.
4. Working in a specific sequence, loosen the camshaft bearing cap nuts by half a turn each pass until the nuts are completely loosened. This is necessary to gradually and evenly relieve the valve spring pressure.
5. Remove the covers, checking their markings. The bearing covers have numbers from 1 to 5 and an arrow pointing toward the toothed belt.
6. Remove the camshaft from the cylinder head. Remove the lifters from their sockets on the top of the cylinder head and place them in numbered plastic bags for reinstallation.
Examination
1. Check the condition of the working surfaces of the camshaft bearings and cams for wear. If there is any wear on the camshaft, it must be replaced. Check the condition of the working surfaces of the camshaft bearings of the cylinder head. If the working surfaces of the bearings are worn, it is necessary to replace the cylinder head.
2. Check the condition of the tappets. If the tappets are worn, the tappet must be replaced.
Installation
1. Lubricate the lifters with clean engine oil and install them in their original locations.

2. Check that the adjusting shims are installed on the top of the lifters.
3. Lubricate the camshaft bearings in the cylinder head with clean engine oil and install the camshaft. Check that the mark on the crankshaft pulley is aligned with the pointer on the oil pump housing and that the fuel pump pulley is secured with the clamp bolt. Install the camshaft so that the cams of the first cylinder are directed upward and the dowel pin on the end of the camshaft is also directed upward.
4. Lubricate the bearings and camshaft lobes with clean engine oil.
5. Apply a thin layer of sealant to the cylinder head in the area where the first camshaft bearing cap is installed (in the photo - places where the sealant is applied (arrows) to the cylinder head and the position of the camshaft dowel pin (A)).
6. Install the camshaft bearing caps. The arrows on the caps should point toward the timing belt.
7. Tighten the bearing cap nuts by hand. Evenly and gradually (one turn each time) tighten the camshaft bearing caps until they touch the cylinder head. Then tighten all the nuts in a certain sequence in several stages to the required torque.
8. Install a new camshaft oil seal ring.
9. Screw the rear timing belt cover mounting bolts to the cylinder head.
10. Install the camshaft pulley and timing belt.
11. Check valve clearances and install the cylinder head cover.
