Replacing the crankshaft sealing rings (Opel Vectra B)

Right sealing ring

1. Remove the crankshaft pulley.

2. Drill two small holes in the sealing ring, located at diametrically opposite ends of the seal. Screw two self-tapping screws into the drilled holes of the sealing ring and, using pliers, pull the sealing ring by the screw heads.

3. Clean the sealing ring seat.

4. Lubricate the working lips of the new sealing ring with clean engine oil and install it on the crankshaft. The working lips of the new sealing ring should be directed inward.

5. Remove all traces of engine oil and install the pulley onto the crankshaft.

6. Remove the flywheel.

7. Drill two small holes in the sealing ring, located at diametrically opposite ends of the seal. Screw two self-tapping screws into the drilled holes of the sealing ring and, using pliers, pull the sealing ring by the screw heads.

8. Clean the sealing ring seat.

9. Lubricate the working lips of the new sealing ring with clean engine oil and install it on the crankshaft. The working lips of the new sealing ring should be directed inward.
