1. Make a final check that everything is connected to the engine so that there are no rags or tools left in the engine compartment.
2. Check that the oil and coolant are filled to the correct level.
3. Start the engine. This may take longer than usual for the fuel to be pumped to the engine.
4. Watch that after start of the engine the control lamp of pressure of oil has gone out. This may take a few seconds for the new oil filter to fill with oil.
5. Set to fast idle, check system for oil, fuel and coolant leaks. If a new camshaft has been installed, pay particular attention to the break-in procedure given in Chapter 18, items 17 and 18. Where applicable, check for leaks in the power steering and/or oil cooler couplers (EGR cooler). Smoke and strange odors may be observed for some time, as grease and sealant on various components will burn.
6. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature. Check ignition timing, idle speed and mixture (if it is possible), as described in Section 4A or 4B.
7. Allow the engine to cool, then check the oil and coolant levels again. Adjust if necessary.
8. If new bearings, pistons, etc. were installed, the first 800 km of run the engine should be run in at reduced speeds and loads. It is also recommended to change the engine oil and filter after running in.
