Examination
Disconnect the connector from the reverse light switch.
Use an ohmmeter to check the continuity between the contacts of the reverse light switch connector. There should be continuity when reverse gear is engaged.
Replace the reverse light switch if necessary.
Removal
Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.
Disconnect the connector from the reverse light switch.
Remove the reverse light switch from the gearbox housing.

Installation
Screw the reverse light switch with a new washer into the gearbox housing.
Connect the connector to the reverse light switch.
Warning: When replacing the reverse light switch, use only the original washer, otherwise it may be difficult to engage reverse gear or the switch may be damaged.
Connect the cable to the negative terminal of the battery.
