Starting the engine from an external source (Opel Frontera B)

If the engine does not start due to a completely or partially discharged battery, you can use the battery of another car to start it, connected via jumper wires.

1. The auxiliary battery for starting the engine must have a voltage of 12 V, otherwise damage to the electrical equipment of the car may occur.

2. Place the vehicles next to each other at a distance that allows the connection of the connecting wires, but prevents the vehicles from touching. If the vehicles touch, unwanted grounding may occur. In this case, you will not be able to start the engine of your car, and the electrical systems of both cars may also be damaged.

Warning: Moving vehicles may cause injury. Apply the parking brake on both vehicles. Place the gear shift lever in neutral position.

3. Turn off all electrical consumers on both vehicles. This will prevent sparking and prevent discharge and damage to the batteries.

4. Connect one end of the jumper cables to the positive (+) terminal (1) of the dead battery, and the other end of this cable to the positive (2) (+) terminal of the battery on the other vehicle (used as an additional source).





5. Connect the end of the other jumper cable to the negative (3) (-) terminal of the other vehicle's battery (used as an additional source), and the other end of this wire to the cylinder block (4) of the engine of the car with the discharged battery at the point that is as far away as possible from the battery.

6. Start the engine of the car with the battery used as an additional source and let the engine idle for 3 minutes, and then start the engine of the car with the discharged battery.

7. After the engine has started, disconnect the wires in the reverse order of their connection.
