Attention. When starting from an external source, be extremely careful. Any deviation from the recommendations below could result in personal injury or damage from exploding batteries and electrical failure in both vehicles.
Attention. Avoid contact of battery electrolyte with eyes, skin, fabrics and painted surfaces. The electrolyte contains sulfuric acid which can cause injury or death if exposed directly.
Keep the battery away from sparks and open flames.
A discharged battery can freeze even at temperatures around 0°C. Defrost a frozen battery before connecting jump leads.
Wear protective goggles and clothing when working on the battery.
Use the same voltage battery (12 V). Its capacity (Ah) should not be less than the capacity of a discharged battery.
Starting wires must have insulated clamps with a cross section of at least 16 mm2 (25 mm2 for diesel engines).
Do not disconnect a discharged battery from the car's mains.
Disconnect unnecessary current consumers.
During jump start, do not lean over the battery.
The terminals of one wire must not touch the terminals of the other wire.
When starting from an auxiliary battery, the vehicles must not touch each other.
Apply the parking brake, place the manual transmission in neutral and the automatic transmission in P.
Wire connection order:
Connect the red wire to «positive» auxiliary battery terminal.
Connect the other end of the red wire to «positive» terminal of a discharged battery.
Connect the black wire to «negative» auxiliary battery terminal.
Connect the other end of the black wire to «mass» vehicle, for example, to the engine block or engine mounting bolt. The connection should be made as far away from the discharged battery as possible, but within 60 cm. Route the wires so that they do not touch the rotating parts in the engine compartment, (www.monolith.in.ua).
To start the engine:
Start the engine of the vehicle used as «donor».
After five minutes, start the engine of another car. The starter can be turned on for no more than 15 seconds with an interval of one minute.
Run both engines with wires connected for approximately three minutes at idle.
On a car with a discharged battery, turn on the current consumers (e.g. headlights, heated rear window).
Disconnecting the wires should be done in reverse order.
