Oil pan — removal and installation (2.4L engine) (Opel Frontera A)

When removing and installing the oil pan, in addition to the cross member, both engine mounts must be removed from the chassis. The engine must be lifted with a lifting mechanism to remove the load from the supports. The front of the vehicle must be raised and supported on jack stands.

1. Remove the oil pan shield.

2. Remove the crossmember from the front of the vehicle.

3. Loosen the bolts, remove the left and right engine mounts and lift the engine. Be careful not to pinch the cooling fan.

4. Loosen the bolts and disconnect the left and right bridge beams from the longitudinal beam. Lower the axle onto a garage lift to increase clearance under the oil pan.

5. Remove the drain plug from the bottom of the oil pan.

6. Loosen the bolts and remove the lower part of the oil pan. After this, disconnect the upper part of the crankcase. Remove the oil strainer if necessary.

7. Thoroughly clean all mating surfaces from old sealant.

8. Lubricate the left and right mating surfaces of the timing gear housing and the places on the rear cover of the main bearing with sealant.

9. Place a gasket on the oil pan (by lubricating it with a small amount of grease to secure it in place) and press the oil pan against the cylinder block. Tighten the bolts evenly around the circumference to a torque of 8 Nm. Install the lower part of the oil pan.

10. Lower the engine onto the suspensions and secure both mounts with bolts (52 Nm).

11. Finally, fill the engine with the required amount of engine oil.
