1. Drain the fluid from the system as described in Section Filling the cooling system coolant Chapters Routine care and maintenance. Unscrew the expansion tank cap to facilitate the release of liquid. Collect the liquid in a container if it will be used later. Otherwise, dispose of it properly.
2. Disconnect the plug connections of the thermostat and fan.
3. Loosen the hose clamps on the radiator and remove the hoses. Move the hoses to the side without kinking them.
4. For vehicles manufactured before 1993 with a 2.0L engine, remove the fan cover and hang it on the fan.
5. Disconnect the radiator mount at the top. The radiator is secured with corners on the left and right sides and bolts in the center. Remove the radiator upwards, for cars produced before 1993 together with the lining. When doing this, be careful not to damage the tubes.
When installing a new radiator, it is also necessary to install new fastening elements.
Note: For DOHC engines, the hoses must be disconnected from the intake air resonator. In addition, before removing the radiator, it is necessary to remove the fan motor housing. The details of this engine are shown in the illustration. point 5 (Removing and installing the radiator).
The radiator is installed in the reverse order of its removal. Fill the system with fluid as described in Section Filling the cooling system coolant Chapters Routine care and maintenance.
