Breaker contacts — removal and installation (Opel Ascona C)

1. If the breaker contacts are burnt, pitted or badly worn, they should be replaced.

2. Remove the distributor cap cover, cover, runner and plastic plate covering the breaker.

3. Remove the upper rotor shaft support plate (see photos).

4. Remove the low voltage spade connector, loosen the set screw holding the breaker mechanism, and remove the breaker.

5. Remove the lever with the movable contact and the spring, and then the plate with the fixed contact.

6. In case of minor damage, the contact surfaces can be treated with sandpaper. However, if the contacts are burnt or pitted, we strongly recommend replacing them. Before installing new contacts, wipe their surfaces with methylated spirit.

7. Installation of contacts is carried out in reverse order.

8. Adjust the contact gap and the angle of their closed state as specified in section 3.
