2. On carbureted engines, remove the air filter assembly (Section 3).
3. Unscrew the screws securing the cover of the breaker-distributor, remove the cover (photo). Disconnect high voltage wires from spark plugs and ignition coil. It is better to mark the wires with marking labels.
4. Remove seal insulation from distributor runner (photo).
5. Note the position of the distributor slider, then unscrew the two bolts. Remove the distributor slider from the shield (photo).
6. Remove the shield from the stuffing box (photo).
7. To ensure proper installation, mark the end of the camshaft with paint in the direction the distributor slider points.
8. Check up a condition of a cover and a runner of the distributor, sparks are appreciable as thin black lines of a deposit. Clean the carbon from the spark plug tips, but do not remove the metal, as this will increase the gap and the ignition spark will be increased. Check that the carbon brush inside the cover moves freely against the spring tension (photo).
9. Installation is carried out in the reverse order, apply a little sealant under the heads of the base plate bolts.
