Note: The test technique only applies to 1.8 engines.
1. The ignition coil is installed on the left side of the engine compartment, on the back of the battery (photo).
2. With the ignition off, disconnect the high-voltage and low-voltage wires (photo), check the condition of the ignition coil head, sparking will be indicated by thin lines of soot. Remove the plastic cover for a more complete examination.
3. To check the primary winding, connect an ohmmeter between terminals 1 and 15, and compare the resistance with the data in the Specifications.
4. To check the secondary winding, connect an ohmmeter between terminals 1 (-) and 4 (NT) and compare again with the indicated resistance.
5. Replace the ignition coil if the coil resistances are incorrect or if there are signs of sparking.
6. The ignition coil can be removed by unscrewing the suspension from the inner fender panel.
7. Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
