Antifreeze mixture (Opel Ascona C)

1. On the models in question, antifreeze must always be present in the coolant (at any time of the year). Antifreeze is mixed with clean, preferably soft water. The concentration of antifreeze depends on the required level of protection.

2. 25% antifreeze should be considered as the minimum concentration providing good anti-corrosion protection and preventing freezing at temperatures down to -10 degrees C.

3. For complete protection, the solution should contain 50% antifreeze.

4. Before adding fresh antifreeze to the system, drain the coolant and flush the system (see sections 3 and 4). Check that all hoses are in good condition and that the clamps hold well. Antifreeze has a greater ability to seep than ordinary water.

5. Fill the system with fresh coolant (see section 6). In the future, it will be necessary to add a mixture of antifreeze and water in the correct proportion.

b. Antifreeze should be replaced every 2 years, because by this time it loses its properties as a corrosion inhibitor. Do not attempt to use this antifreeze as a windshield washer fluid; it will stain the glass and corrode the paint. Remember that antifreeze is poisonous and be careful when handling it.

7. If you don't need antifreeze (mild winters), a corrosion inhibitor should still be added to the coolant and under no circumstances should water alone be used.
