Warning: The antifreeze mixture is poisonous. Keep it away from children and pets. Rinse stains on upholstery and clothing with water.
1. The antifreeze/water mixture should be changed every two years to maintain anti-corrosion properties. The engine must not be operated with ordinary water as coolant, except in critical situations where the ambient temperature is much higher than 0°C.
2. The mixture must be made up of clean water with a low lime content (preferably rain water) and a good quality ethylene glycol based antifreeze that contains a corrosion inhibitor and is suitable for use in «mixed metals» (aluminum and iron).
3. The required amount of antifreeze to water will depend on the manufacturer's recommendations, but the mixture should protect to -30°C.
4. Before filling with new antifreeze, drain and, if necessary, flush the cooling system as described in Chapters 3 and 4.
5. The density of antifreeze in the cooling system can be checked with an instrument similar to a battery hydrometer.
