Antifreeze mixture — general description (Opel Omega A)

            0

Warning: Antifreeze mixture is poisonous. Keep away from children and pets. Wash stains on upholstery and clothing with water.

1. The antifreeze/water mixture should be replaced every two years to maintain its anti-corrosion properties. The engine should not be operated with ordinary water as a coolant except in critical situations where the ambient temperature is much higher than 0°C.

2. The mixture should be made up of clean water with low lime content (rainwater is preferred) and a good quality ethylene glycol based antifreeze that contains a corrosion inhibitor and is suitable for use in "mixed metals" (aluminum and iron).

3. The required amount of antifreeze to water will depend on the manufacturer's recommendations, but the mixture should protect down to -30°C.

4. Before filling with new antifreeze, drain and, if necessary, flush the cooling system as described in Chapters 3 and 4.

5. The density of the antifreeze in the cooling system can be checked with a tool similar to a battery hydrometer.
