Cooling system — flushing (Opel Omega A)

1. Flushing is not required if the coolant has been replaced periodically or if plain water has been used. In any case, if the coolant appears rusty and dark, flushing is required. Perform it as follows.

2. Drain the fluid from the system as described in previous chapter.

3. Start by flushing the expansion tank, if present. The heater can be flushed by disconnecting the hoses at the bulkhead and then inserting the water hose.

4. Flush the radiator by inserting a water hose into the top of the radiator and running water until it runs clear out of the bottom outlet.

5. To flush the engine, remove the thermostat (Chapter 9) and insert a hose instead, flush until the water coming out of the lower hose is clear. Also unscrew the cylinder block drain plug, located on the front left side of the engine.
