Brake pedal — removal and installation (Opel Ascona C)

1. Working under the dashboard, disconnect the pedal return spring (Figure 9.71).

2. Remove the ring and pull out the bracket pin to disconnect the push rod bracket fork from the pedal arm.

3. Disconnect the electrical wires from the brake light switch.

4. Remove the tube from the heat distributor housing.

5. Unscrew and remove the pedal support bracket.

6. Secure the support bracket in a vice and remove the locking pin from the cross shaft nut.

7. Unscrew and remove the nut and then pull the cross shaft out of its support bracket.

8. Remove the pedal and shaft spring.

9. Assembly is carried out in the reverse order, only lubricate the cross shaft with grease and tighten the nuts and bolts to the specified torque values.

10. Note that the cross shaft nut is on the right side when viewed from the driver's seat, and the end of the shaft spring hooks into a hole in the support bracket.
