The distance traveled is calculated from the number of wheel revolutions and the outer diameter of the tire. This means that different outer diameters of tires, for example, worn tires on the rear axle and new tires on the front axle, can provide incorrect information on the instantaneous speed of the vehicle. To eliminate this undesirable phenomenon, the ABS control unit automatically adjusts the tires. This adjustment takes some time. During this period, it is not possible to obtain the correct PBS grip.
Tyre fitting can be done in the manner described below.
All tyres are inflated to the correct air pressure – refer to the relevant owner's manual or maintenance schedule. o The vehicle is accelerated at a speed of 100 to 120 km/h. o The vehicle then continues to move in a straight line by inertia, without pressing the accelerator or brake pedal, until the speed decreases to 70 km/h.
This procedure is repeated 5 times, after which a complete fit of the tires is guaranteed in any case.
The engine power or torque is automatically adjusted so that optimum driving stability, traction and brake grip are always ensured within physical limits. The adjustment is carried out by the corresponding electronic engine controller via a contact in the engine management system.
The PBS clutch is indicated by the flashing of the control lamp 1 on the instrument panel. The reduction in engine power is also detected by the fact that the engine no longer responds in the usual way to pressing the gas pedal.
After the engine is started, the PBS is automatically ready for starting. During the movement, the system continuously self-monitors.
If the PBS indicator lamp on the instrument panel does not go out after a few minutes after the ignition is turned on or lights up constantly while driving, there is a problem with the PBS. In this case, the PBS does not work.
