Traction control is only available with ABS 5.3/PBS, ABS 8.0 PCD and Z 18 XE engine. The most important input parameter of the PBS is the speedometer signal of the ABS wheel sensor.
The distance traveled is calculated from the number of revolutions of the wheel and the outside diameter of the tire. This means that different outside tire diameters, such as worn tires on the rear axle and new tires on the front axle, can give incorrect information about the vehicle's instantaneous speed. To eliminate this undesirable phenomenon, the ABS control unit performs automatic tire fitting. This selection takes some time. During this period of time, it is impossible to obtain the correct adhesion of the PBS.
Tire fitting can be done as described below.
All tires are inflated to the correct air pressure - see the appropriate owner's manual or maintenance schedule. o The vehicle accelerates from 100 to 120 km/h. o Then the car continues to move in a straight line due to inertia, without pressing the accelerator or brake pedal, until the speed drops to 70 km/h.
This procedure is repeated 5 times, after which a complete fit of the tires is guaranteed in any case.
The power or torque of the engine is automatically adjusted in such a way that optimal driving stability, traction force and brake engagement are always ensured within physical limits. The adjustment is carried out by the corresponding electronic engine controller through a contact in the engine management system.
PBS clutch is shown by flashing control lamp 1 on the instrument panel. A decrease in engine power is also detected by the fact that the engine no longer responds in the usual way to pressing the gas pedal.
After starting the engine, the PBS is automatically ready to start. During the movement, the system is constantly self-monitoring.
If the PBS warning lamp on the dashboard does not go out after a few minutes after the ignition is turned on, or if it lights up constantly while driving, there is a problem with the PBS. PBS does not work in this case.
