If the ABS is faulty, the ABS 1 warning lamp on the instrument panel will illuminate, but the normal braking system will remain fully functional. The vehicle should be returned to an Opel/Vauxhall dealer or service centre for inspection and repair as soon as possible.

Operational check
After all work not related to ABS parts, it is sufficient to perform a simple operational check. This means that 3 seconds after the ignition is turned on, the ABS indicator lamp on the instrument panel should go out. If the ABS indicator lamp on the instrument panel does not go out or lights up intermittently while driving, there is a malfunction in the system.
Attention should be paid to protection against electrostatic discharge, failure to observe which may result in damage to the unit (integrated circuit), in particular the pressure sensor in the CCD. Appropriate measures should be taken, such as protecting the workplace from electrostatic discharge. If such measures are not available, an antistatic bracelet can be worn, which is located in the trunk of the car.
After carrying out work related to the hydraulic unit or ABS control unit (for example, troubleshooting an accident), the entire ABS system should be checked.
The test can be carried out using the "TECH 2" device according to the current test instructions. In a standstill state with the ignition on, a self-test of the ABS occurs, which, depending on the circumstances, can be heard by the noise of the pump.
When carrying out work on vehicles with ABS, the following conditions must be observed:
- when performing electric welding work, remove the power plug from the ABS control unit;
- when painting, the temperature of the ABS control unit should not exceed 80°C. After working on the brake system, air should be pumped out of it. Check all connections for leaks. After completing repair work, check the reliability of the battery connection;
- do not use temporarily assembled circuits for starting. Pay attention to the reliability of all cable connections. Never insert or remove the cable multi-pin plug from the ABS control unit with the ignition on.
