6. Check the sealing ring in the release bearing guide for dirt or damage and replace it if necessary. To do this, use a screwdriver to remove the sealing ring from the release bearing guide.

Examination

1. Compress the clutch release bearing and rotate it at the same time. If the bearing makes noise, replace it with a new one.

The bearing has a long-term lubricant. It does not need to be cleaned and re-lubricated.

2. Check sliding surfaces for wear, corrosion and damage.

Installation

1. Lubricate the new sealing ring between the sealing lips with grease, for example, OPEL-19 48 524 (90 001 825).

2. Press the sealing ring into the press using the special tool OPEL KM-445 or a short piece of pipe of a suitable diameter.

3. Insert the rubber sealing ring into the groove on the gearbox housing without lubricating the ring.

4. Install the release bearing guide on the gearbox housing and tighten it with force 5 Nm.

5. Apply a thin layer of grease (for example, OPEL 19 48 524 or OPEL 90 001 825) sliding surfaces of the release bearing (clutch release bearing) along the guide bushing. If necessary, remove any burnt-on grease residue.

Do not apply too much grease to avoid getting it on the clutch friction surfaces.

6. Install the clutch release lever.

7. Install the clutch release bearing onto the guide sleeve and tighten the clutch fork onto the lever 35 Nm.

8. Install the clutch.
