A new or remanufactured head can be ordered from an Opel workshop or from the manufacturer's warehouse. Due to the fact that some complex and expensive tools are required to disassemble and check the condition of the head, it may be cheaper to purchase a new or remanufactured head.
With the appropriate configuration, immediately after removing the head, remove the jet from the engine block (s) oil spray, clean it (their) and place in a separate plastic bag.
Disassembly of the cylinder head requires preliminary dismantling of the valve train (intake and exhaust valves with related components). It is understood that the valve levers and camshaft (s) already removed from the head (OK).
1. Remove the cylinder head from the engine block (see part Procedures for repairing SOHC gasoline engines without removing them from the vehicle, In-Vehicle DOHC Gasoline Engine Repair Procedures or Procedures for repairing diesel engines without removing them from the vehicle this chapter).
2. Using a special tool, compress the spring (s) of the first valve and remove from the groove on the rod the crackers of the split lock of the plate (use a magnetized rod, forceps, or needle nose pliers). Carefully release the tool and remove the spring plate from the valve, the spring (s), oil seal and spring seat (depending on configuration) On SOHC engines prior to September 1995, also remove the rotators.
Valve spring compression for SOHC 1.0 and 1.2L engines
Valve spring compression for 1.4L and 1.6L DOHC engines. Spring compression on diesel engines is done in the same way
Removing the oil seal
If crackers «stuck» and cannot be removed, lightly tap the spring compression tool on the side of the retainer with a hammer.
3. Place the removed valve assembly components in a separate, clearly numbered plastic bag/plastic cup.
4. Next, remove the valve by pushing it into the combustion chamber. If the valve is jammed in the guide sleeve, push it back into the head and with a whetstone or a fine-toothed file, carefully clean the edges of the groove for installing crackers.
5. In the same manner, remove the remaining valve assemblies. Put the removable components of each of the valves in a separate, appropriately labeled bag / cup - during assembly, each part must be installed strictly in its original place.
6. Once all the valvetrain components have been removed and stowed in an organized manner, you can proceed with the cleaning and inspection procedures for the head (in case of a full-scale reconditioning of the engine, before completing its disassembly).
