Maintenance work
The front and rear wheels run on double-row ball bearings that - mounted with long-term lubrication - can withstand over 100,000 km. Defective bearings attract attention with rotational noise: if the noise gets louder on right turns, then most often this means that the left wheel bearing is damaged. Wheel bearing play is also a result of wear. This is checked as follows:
Grasp each wheel firmly on the ground one by one and try to move it across the car
With perfect bearings, there will be practically no «backlash».
If you feel a gap, have your assistant press the brake pedal hard, and then shake the wheel again: if there is no gap, then the problem is in the wheel bearing. If, despite this, the gap remains: the wheel suspension must be checked.
With the car raised high, you can still check if the wheels turn easily (Are there any rubbing or grinding sounds?).
Defective wheel bearings must be replaced. There is no way to adjust the bearings.
