Maintenance work
If the front wheels are removed to check the brake linings, the condition of the brake discs is also checked.
There should be no deep grooves on the discs and they should not be thinned to the minimum acceptable level (due to dirt or too much wear on the pads). The grooves cut deeply into new brake pads, which significantly reduces their service life and, in addition, reduces the braking effect.
Scratched brake discs can be reamed on a lathe if they have not been worn down to the minimum permissible size over a long period of service (see table).
Discs that are too thin should be replaced in pairs.
A bluish tint to the brake disc has no service life and, in addition, reduces the braking effect, meaning.
Tip: If the brake discs are worn down to the minimum permissible size, their service life is limited. The next time the pads are replaced, the discs should also be replaced.
Left:to check the thickness of the brake pads, place a ruler on the pad and measure its thickness (minimum 8 mm), including the carrier plate.
Right: to check the outer brake lining, the brake caliper - as shown here in the photo - must be pressed outward.
