Constant control
On the left rear in the engine compartment, right on the master brake cylinder, there is an expansion tank with brake fluid.
In a transparent whitish expansion tank, the brake fluid level must be between the marks «MIN» And «MAX».
If the fluid level has dropped noticeably - which in the Vectra is additionally indicated by a warning light on the dashboard - you need to check the brake system for leaks.
Too low brake fluid level
If the disc brake pads are already a little worn, then there is a tendency for the fluid level to drop down to the bottom mark; if they are new, then the fluid level is higher. This is completely normal, because. with worn linings, the disc brake pistons that have protruded a little further leave large volumes in the brake caliper cylinders, which are filled with brake fluid. On the contrary, the situation is critical if the brake fluid has dropped below the level «MIN» in one part of the tank. Because it does not evaporate and is not consumed, it is removed only by leakage. So find the reason as soon as possible (see text below), before it ever empties out. Adding liquid would be a scam!
Tip: although there is only one expansion tank, if the brake circuit is leaking, all the brake fluid cannot leak out, because. the tank is divided by a jumper into two chambers.
