Constant control
Test full braking at walking speed first.
By the same rubber marks on the road, you will see that the brakes pull the same way. This also applies to vehicles with an anti-lock system. ABS does not work at speeds below 5 km/h.
Check the handbrake in the same way.
To test the brakes at higher speeds, you need a level road.
From about 50 km/h with the steering wheel released, but with your hands at the ready, brake gently at first and then brake hard to a complete stop.
When you fully depress the pedal, you will feel harsh control vibrations of the ABS system - this is normal (see next chapter).
If the car pulls to the left, then one of the right brakes is not in order. The car pulls to the side stronger than the braked wheel. Read about the reasons for this phenomenon at the end of the chapter.
To check the ease of movement of the wheels, you need to have your Vectra roll down a slight slope.
After a test drive, check by hand:
Check if the rim is hotter on one side of the car than on the other?
The cause may be a stuck brake caliper or a heavy parking brake stroke.
With the vehicle raised, check which wheel has heavy play.
