2. If the brake fluid level in the reservoir is too low, add fluid to the correct level.
3. Start the engine and let it idle.
4. Apply constant, moderate pressure to the brake pedal. If the pedal gradually lowers under the pressure of the foot, then there may be a leak in the system.
5. Turn off the ignition.
6. Visually inspect the following brake system components for leaks, excessive corrosion, and damage, paying special attention to all brake line and hose connections to ensure there are no loose ends:
- Brake master cylinder connections.
- All brake line connections.
- Brake pipelines.
- Brake hoses and connections.
- Brake calipers and/or working brake cylinders.
7. While some dampness around the master cylinder reservoir can be considered acceptable, brake fluid leaks from any component of the brake system are a prime indication of a leak. If any of the components of the brake system show signs of leakage, it is necessary to repair or replace them with new ones. After repairs or replacements, check that the brakes are working properly.
