Replacement of axle joint and joint boot (Opel Vectra A)

            0

Contents: Removal ⬇ Installation ⬇
Defective protective covers must be replaced immediately. Replacement requires disassembling the axle shaft. If dirt gets into the grease, wash the joint in gasoline and lubricate with new grease. Defects in the bearing balls manifest themselves as knocks and noises when the load on the axle shaft changes. In this case, the joints must be replaced.

Attention! Even if it is necessary to replace both covers, it is enough to replace only one hinge.

Removal

Remove the axle shaft.

Cut off the tightening clamp on the cover, remove the cover from the hinge and turn it inside out.

Knock the joint out of the splined axle shaft with a plastic hammer.

Installation

Attention! Defective hinges must be replaced as a set.

Carefully remove the old grease from the joint and fill the joint cavity with new special grease Opel ET N1941512 (900942176) using a wooden spatula.

Install a new retaining ring. Make sure that the ring is seated correctly in the groove.

Pull the protective cover of the joint onto the axle shaft.

Ensure that the inner joint on the long side of the axle shaft is correctly positioned; maintain dimension 1 (135 mm) for fastening the hinge protective cover.

Slide the new joint onto the axle shaft, install the retaining ring and secure it with a plastic hammer.

Install the hinge protective cover. Beforehand, stick adhesive tape on sharp places to avoid damaging the cover.

Use a screwdriver to lift the edge of the cover to let in air.

Secure the mounting clamp with pliers.

Attention! The cover must sit on the axle shaft without skewing. To attach the covers, you can use special metal rings that are put on with regular pliers. You can also use clamps with a screw clamp.

Install the axle shaft with the joint.
